Intertextuality example

Red Hot Chili Peppers – californication

The intertexulity used is a video game.
The movement of the characters in the video game fits into the beat perfectly by the transitions and movements.
The characters of the game look as if they are singing to the song also. The lyrics fit in perfectly also, when the band mention a pregnant woman in their song, an animation of a pregnant woman appears in the action game. So not only does the music video fit into the beat, it fits perfectly in with visuals too.
The audience realises eventually that the aim of the game is to collect certain tokens to gain more points, the tokens are the bands logo, so they use their brand identity also, we notice that the animations in the game are actually the members of the band, they look really similar.
I think this is really successful because the video is narrative based through a video game, this engages the audience as we are interested all the time in what is going to happen next to the animations in the video, whilst we still see the bands personal touches by including their logo, and the characters are them too, the music video does not contrast with the lyrics at all, they have included many animations, and effects to match the lyrics. The music video is of a high quality also.

The Nites- No Reason Lyrics

Intro (instrumental)

I need a last show, yeah I wanna see the sun
Don’t wanna let it pass, don’t wanna walk when I can run
So many times I tried, and many times been wrong
Still everytime I tell myself, don’t you dare
Sell yourself a line your nothing more

And the face you wear, theres no reason why
It’s the way things fall
In a world full of questions
Don’t have to ask them all
You Just got to let it go sometimes, sometimes

Theres no reason here, that I can find
And im done with searching
Wanna close my eyes
Just gotta let it go sometimes, sometimes

I read the wrong book, I didn’t see the signs
I took a right hook, in old classical style
I took everything they had, still look them in the eyes

And everytime I tell myself
Don’t you dare
Sell yourself a line your nothing more

And the face you wear, theres no reason why
It’s the way things fall
In a world full of questions
Don’t have to ask them all
You Just got to let it go sometimes, sometimes

Theres no reason here, that I can find
And im done with searching
Wanna close my eyes
Just gotta let it go sometimes, sometimes

Talking in circles through the night
Im trying to find that something real, and right
Im chasing your shadows everywhere
For what its worth and how it feels

Theres no reason why
It’s the way things fall
In a world full of questions
Don’t have to ask them all
You Just got to let it go sometimes, sometimes
Theres no reason here, that I can find
And im done with searching
Wanna close my eyes
You just gotta let it go sometimes, sometimes

The Nites - No Reason

The track we chosen is No Reason by The Nites. There Genre is Acoustic/pop/rock which we feel is good pick for us because we are all into that kind of music.

Story about the band.

The story of The Nites begins back in 2003, when a barman named Ant met a cleaner named Mike. One day, Anthony came home from work to get ready for a gig that night and found Mike cleaning his apartment. Back then Mike worked for a cleaning company that cleaned Anthony's apartment once a week. Mike had been asked to fill in that day for a sick member of staff and visited Anthony's apartment for the first time. They acknowledged each other briefly before Anthony went to get ready. Shortly after, he heard music coming from the lounge and went out to discover Mike singing a song on his beloved vintage Martin guitar that his uncle left him. But he soon forgot all about this when he tuned into what Mike was playing. After finding out it was one of his own tracks they instantly geled. After talking about their styles and influences and getting to know each other, they started writing the very next day and after 3 years of hard work enlisted the help of Craig Powell, head of the Songmaker Group, who instantly saw their talent and song writing capabilities. Currently in the recording studio laying down their debut album, so expect good things from The Nites in the future.

Digipack

Digipaks typically consist of a gatefold (book-style) paperboard or card stock outer binding, with one or more plastic trays capable of holding a CD or DVD attached to the inside. Digipak-style packaging is often used for CD singles or special editions of CD albums and the tall DVD Digipak (DVDigipak) is used as a premium package for DVDs and DVD sets.

The Digi-pack is the exceptional alternative to standard jewel box packaging. Made mostly from thick card, the digi-pack is virtually shatterproof and allows great graphic display. Originally used for the album packaging of leading musicians, the digi-pack and digi-pack family are now priced reasonably enough to be used for any CD or DVD project. The digi-pack is an extremely versatile packaging. It can be made to accommodate a booklet either by placing in a die-cut slot or gluing onto one of the panels. In addition, the panels can be increased from 4 to 6, 8 or more. The DVD Digi-pack is a popular alternative to the DVD box. It is now widely used for feature film DVD releases which are special editions because it increases the value and creates a premium product.

CD Cover!

Example - Wont Go Quietly

I like this CD cover because of the graphics it has in it. The range of graphics is a good because it makes the buyer interested what is in each little picture. I also like how random they are, its not sterotypical because of all the crazy and wierd things that is going on in the pictures, different costumes, different expressions and different actions. All not really relevent about the title!

Another reason why i like it is because of its brightness and the way it stands out, because of the global name example has, just putting his name in big bold letters is symbolic.

I think the way that the cover intergrates the name with the pictures and being seperate is quite clever and simple.

Overall i think it is a relativley simple design but yet eye grabbing, fun and effective.
